Automotion Solution for Woodworking Industry

Siemens Automation & Drives (A&D) presented automation and drives solutions covering all aspects of woodworking. Under the slogan "Expertise in Woodworking", Siemens offers machine manufacturers and users a host of solutions for machining centers, broadband grinding machines, plug drilling machines, edge trimming machines, profiling machines, and window machines. The hot issues on the Siemens stand were distributed automation solutions with the Posmo servo drives and the increasingly significant PC-based automation. Siemens' system solutions for woodworking use standard components from the Simatic and Sinumerik range, supplemented by hardware and software functions specific to woodworking.

Profibus is the standard fieldbus for the entire machine. This is made possible by distributed automation solutions with Profibus and functions such as "equidistance" in data transmission, that is, a defined, accurately repeatable data flow sequence to the drives, or internode communication that enables direct communication between drives and I/O. The advantage of the distributed solution is that the drives handle technology and control functions and offload the higher-level controller. In addition, the drives are incorporated by means of Profibus into Totally Integrated Automation (TIA).

The Siemens Simodrive Posmo A, SI, CA and CD positioning drives enable distributed installation of servo drives in production machinery at machine-level and without the need for control cabinets. Posmo A is designed for simple positioning tasks, and Posmo SI is suitable for all types of servo tasks. Both have an integral converter for motor control.

The two drives Posmo CA and CD have been specially designed for motor-level installation. As an optional extra to the standard measuring system for basic information such as commutation signals, actual speed and actual position, both have a second, high-resolution position measuring system. Posmo A has degree of protection IP 54, and Posmo SI has IP 64. Posmos CA and CD have degree of protection IP 65.

The servo drives are configured and parameterized with the new Simocom U software that enables fast startup and diagnosis of the individual drives. Simocom U is also integrated into the Siemens Drive ES engineering package.
