Siemens at Metav: Innovative products, systems and services
for every aspect of machine tools
Using the slogan “Productivity in Motion”, Siemens
Automation and Drives (A&D) is presenting its range of
products and services for the machine tool industry at the
Metav 2002 Trade Fair in Düsseldorf . The presentation
focuses on coordinated CNC controllers and drives which raise
machine performance even further in terms of machining speed,
contour accuracy and surface quality of the workpieces to
be machined. To achieve this, for example, new functionalities
were integrated into the Sinumerik controllers and the range
of drives was extended.
The ShopMill and ShopTurn software packages have been supplemented
with functions for processing in individual and low-volume
production (JobShop). By means of new cycles, such as the
tap thread milling cycle for milling or plunge-turning in
the turning sector, machining times can be minimized and tool
costs reduced.
For tool- and die-making Siemens is offering a new motion
control program for the Sinumerik 840D controller, in which
both the tool path and the orientation are determined by separate
spline-curves. This reduces the machining time while at the
same time improving surface quality, especially for the 5-axis
machining of sculptured surfaces.
New drive concepts based on linear motors, integrated motor
spindles or directly driven circular motors, the torque motors,
contribute to the increase in machine performance. And to
increase machine availability, software products for preventive
maintenance, WinTPM, and for fast fault clearance, remote
diagnosis with traffic (@event) are being exhibited.
The exhibition also focuses on services such as mechatronics
support, which supports the machine manufacturer even at the
development stage. Or the web-based services of the Siemens-A&D
subsidiary ePS (ePS Network-electronic Production Service
GmbH).
Other exhibits at Metav include: Safety technology using Profibus
(Safety Integrated) and Sinutrain, a training package for
practice-oriented CNC training. The whole show is rounded
off with supplementary products from major solution providers.
The Siemens Automation and Drives Group (A&D), Nuremberg/Erlangen,
Germany, is the leading manufacturer in this field worldwide.
Products supplied by A&D include standard products for
the manufacturing and process industries and for the electrical
installation industry as well as system solutions, for example
for machine tools, and solutions for whole industries such
as the automation of entire automobile factories or chemical
plants. Supplementing this range of products and services,
A&D also offers software for linking production and management
(horizontal and vertical IT integration) and for optimizing
production processes. A&D employs 54,000 people worldwide
and in fiscal year 2001 (to September 30) earned a pre-tax
profit of €981 million on sales of €8.9 billion
and orders of €9.1 billion.
