Direct Drive - Torque Motors
Siemens Torque motors are designed
as direct drives. They eliminate the need for gearboxes,
worm-gear drives, and other mechanical-transmission elements
by mean of directly coupling the load to the drive. The high
dynamic response drive while having no hysteresis is made
possible. Torque motor does not only simplify machine design,
but also improves accuracy and dynamic response.
Siemens' torque motor features a very high
torque of up to 7500 Newton-meters. Siemens torque motor is
available as 1FW3 Series (Compact Unit) and
1FW6 Series (Built-in Unit), both
offering maximum precision and dynamics both for positioning
and continuous-path control; in other words, the interpolation
of several dynamic axes.
1FW3 Compact type torque
motor is designed as a complete motor with an external cooling
jacket. It eliminates time-consuming installation and mounting
procedures. The hollow shaft allows you to implement more
flexible mechanical design and maintenance concepts. 1FW3
is suitable for wide range of application in production machines,
examples include:
- Drive for extruder worm gears in fully electronic plastic
injection molding machines
- Roller drive in foil production machinery,
- CI drives for flexography printing machines
- Innovative drive solutions in paper, packaging and textile
machines.
1FW6 Built-in type torque
motor achieves an exact temperature profile through an integrated
high-performance cooler and an optional precision cooler.
It is supplied as built-in components that are held together
in the delivered state by transport locks. For a complete
drive unit, an additional bearing and shaft encoder are required.
The built-in torque motors can be used as
direct drive in combination with the SIMODRIVE 611 digital/universal
HR converter system for the following machine tool applications:
- Rotary indexing machines, rotary tables, swivel axes
- Rotary axes (A, B, C axis in 5-axis machine tools)
- Turret indexing and cylinder indexing for single-spindle
and multi-spindle machines
- Dynamic tool magazines
- Rotating spindles in milling machines
