OKK Copy Milling MH-8TC Retrofitted with SINUMERIK 802D

Once again, OKK Copy Milling (Model MH-8TC) has been succesfully retrofitted by CNC Design Indonesia for a customer in tool and die making industry. Originally machine was a copy milling machine equipped with 3rd party control and DC motors for axis feed mechanism. The machine had been down for couple months due to lack of service and spare part availability particularly for such outdated and obsolete technology.

CNC Design has installed Siemens SINUMERIK 802D digital CNC controller and totally scrapped the existing controller. SINUMERIK 802D at particular level suits the requirement in tool and die making i.e: look ahead function for contouring (30 blocks) and reliable DNC programming. The selection of SINUMERIK 802D has enabled a cost effective solution while having no step backward in quality.

Siemens compact and robust AC servomotors from 1FT6 series has been choosen to replace the old DC motors for axis feeding. The integrated 1Vpp encoder within 1FT6 servomotor tooks over the function of old tacho and resolver on existing DC motors for better speed and positioning accuracy.

In less than 2 weeks the machine has been put back into operation. Reliable DNC operation through RS232 connection using CAD/CAM software has been performed. At last, thanks to online interpreter for ISO Programming feature integrated in SINUMERIK 802D, the customer has succesfully machined the dies using their existing part programs. (26/02/2004)
